Hey,

It’s Pete Matheson with a new issue of Experiments in Progress.

If you're upgrading your setup this year, there are a lot of monitor options — ultrawides, OLED gaming displays, productivity screens, and massive super-ultrawides.

🖥️ My Monitor Picks (What I’d actually buy)

After testing many of them over time, these are the models I’d personally recommend right now, depending on how you work or play.

🧠 The productivity picks

If your focus is work, multitasking, and daily productivity, these are still the easiest monitors to recommend.

Dell UltraSharp 40" or 52" Thunderbolt

Both of these are excellent all-around productivity displays.

  • IPS Black panels → strong colour accuracy and deeper blacks than typical IPS

  • Huge workspace for multiple windows without needing two monitors

  • Thunderbolt connectivity makes them perfect for Mac setups or laptop docking

The 40-inch is the more practical option for most desks.

The 52-inch is a beast. Incredible if you want a single screen that replaces an entire multi-monitor setup.

🎮 The gaming picks

If gaming is part of your setup, OLED still gives the most impressive experience.

LG UltraGear 45" OLED (240Hz)

This is one of the best immersive gaming monitors right now.

  • Curved OLED panel

  • 240Hz refresh rate

  • Deep blacks and extremely fast response times

It’s a fantastic mix of gaming performance and visual quality.

LG 32" UltraGear Gaming Monitor (240Hz)

If you want something more traditional in size, this 32-inch LG panel is one of the most popular gaming displays right now.

  • 240Hz refresh rate

  • Fast response times

  • Excellent for competitive gaming

A great option if the huge ultrawides feel like overkill.

🚀 The “ultimate” monitor (if you want something ridiculous)

This is the largest and most extreme productivity monitor you can buy today.
It’s essentially the equivalent of two full 4K monitors merged into one curved display.

For multitasking and immersion, it’s incredible.

The one thing I’m still waiting for:

👉 an OLED version of the 57-inch G9

That would probably be the ultimate display but curved OLED panels at that size are still a few years away.

🍎 Apple’s new displays (worth it?)

Apple just released new versions of the Studio Display and Studio Display XDR.

My early take:

  • The Studio Display still feels overpriced for what you get.

  • The Studio Display XDR could be more interesting.

We’re actually getting the XDR into the studio this week and will be testing it against other premium monitors to see how it really compares.

Expect a full breakdown soon.
