Hey,
Welcome to this week’s Experiments in Progress (by Pete Matheson) issue!
This issue is about looking a bit further ahead.
We start with early Galaxy S26 Ultra rumors — not spec lists for the sake of it, but the changes that might actually matter if they hold. It’s still early, but there are already a few signals worth paying attention to.
In this issue, I’m breaking down:

📱 The 5 Things to Watch With the Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra (Rumors)
Samsung’s next flagship isn’t official yet, but the Galaxy S26 Ultra rumor cycle is already loud. And so far, this looks less like a reinvention — and more like Samsung refining what’s already there.
Here are five rumored changes worth watching.
1️⃣ Qi2 charging finally gets serious
The most meaningful upgrade might be charging.
Leaks point to full Qi2 support, including proper magnets — not just faster speeds. Wireless charging could jump from 15W to 25W, putting Samsung closer to MagSafe-style reliability.
If true, this is a quiet win: better accessories, better alignment, fewer daily annoyances.
2️⃣ Camera upgrades, not a camera overhaul
The 200MP main sensor stays, but with a rumored f/1.4 aperture that should improve low-light performance.
Other rumored tweaks:
a new 12MP 3× telephoto
faster laser autofocus
updated image processing
Useful improvements — just not a leap that makes last year’s Ultra feel outdated.
3️⃣ Performance depends on your region
This one matters.
Some reports suggest Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 in certain markets — and Exynos 2600 in others. That split hasn’t historically delivered consistent results.
There’s also talk of 16GB RAM, likely driven by Samsung’s AI push. Power shouldn’t be an issue. Consistency might be.
4️⃣ Thinner design, familiar trade-offs
Leaks suggest a slimmer body with more rounded edges, nudging the Ultra toward broader appeal.
The open questions:
Does thinness affect durability?
Does it compromise the S Pen experience?
S Pen support appears safe — but this is where “sleeker” risks becoming “less Ultra.”
5️⃣ Battery stays the same, charging improves
Despite early hopes, most reports still point to a 5,000mAh battery — though a single leak suggests a possible bump to 5,400mAh.
The upside: 60W wired charging and faster wireless charging are rumored, which may matter more day-to-day than raw capacity.
Classic Samsung: optimize around the limitation instead of changing it.
